The thing that surprised me most about blogging is the commitment that it requires. It isn’t just about writing great articles. There is so much more to blogging than good writing. You have to find ways to get people to your content. You need consistent traffic to keep your blog going. If it wasn’t for my blog, I would not have read several articles on SEO, social media marketing, website management, (especially mobile friendliness, page speed and analytics).

There’s so much that goes into getting your blog to rank high on search engines. In as much as you write, you have to do your research too. I spend a lot of time taking tips from pro bloggers. That’s why I always recommend Neil Patel, Ahrefs, Semrush and Moz. There’s a wealth of knowledge to learn from these blogs.

I believe that’s part of the reasons why many new blogs fail. People write content with the expectation that traffic will come rushing in, but the opposite happens, little or no traffic! The bottom line is that blogging is more than just creating great content. It requires patience, hard work and a lot of dedication. If you aren’t willing to make these sacrifices, chances are your blog is going to fail.

One of the easiest ways to attract more people to your blog is to find the platforms that your target audience is on and get active on there. Choose the platforms that work best for you and stay active. Here are some other things to consider.

  • Create high DA backlinks.
  • Set up your internal links.
  • Write irresistible headlines.
  • Target high volume- low competition long tail keywords. Ahrefs and Ubersuggest are excellent tools that will help with your keyword research.
  • Set up your on-page and off-page SEO.
  • Build an email list.
  • Share your content on social media platforms that you target audience spend most of their time on.
  • Add links to your bio.
  • Answer questions on Quora that are related to your niche.
  • Get advice for pro-bloggers in your niche.
  • Get advice from Quora spaces.
  • Spy on your competition to see what keywords they are ranking for and the kind of content they are producing.
  • Keep your content original. Don't be a copy cat!!!
  • Make sure that you’re writing content with search intent in mind. It makes no sense to be writing articles that no one is searching for. Always do your keyword research!
  • Use the right keywords when you are creating your tags or labels for your posts.
  • Make use of your ALT text and Meta description by adding your target keyword there.
  • Use captivating photos.
